He graduated from LGITMiK (St. Petersburg State Theatre Arts Academy) in 1996 (class of V. Filshtinsky).
From 1995 to 1996, he worked at the Experimental Theatre "Perekrestok" and as a host on regional television in the music and news programs department. In 1996, he worked at the Satirikon Theatre in Moscow, where he performed in productions of "The Threepenny Opera" and "Cyrano de Bergerac".
That same year, he returned to St. Petersburg and joined the troupe of the Lensoviet Theatre, where he played leading roles in productions by director Y. Butusov: Estragon in "Waiting for Godot" by S. Beckett, Simpleton Karl in "Woyzeck" by G. Büchner, and Caligula in "Caligula" by A. Camus. He performed in productions by V. Pazi: "King, Queen, Knave" by V. Nabokov (Mannequin, Waiter, Medic), "Brother Rabbit in the Wild West" by E. Gaidai (Brother Opossum), and "You Never Can Tell" by B. Shaw (Valentine). In the entreprise production "The Death of Tarelkin" based on A. Sukhovo-Kobylin's play, he played Varravin (directed by Y. Butusov).
In 2003, he was accepted into the troupe of the Moscow Art Theatre. He played Alexei Turbin in "The White Guard" by M. Bulgakov (directed by S. Zhenovach, 2004), Claudius in "Hamlet" by W. Shakespeare (directed by Y. Butusov, 2005), and Macheath in "The Threepenny Opera" by B. Brecht (directed by K. Serebrennikov, 2009). He plays the Double Bass Player in "The Double Bass" by P. Süskind (directed by G. Cherepanov, 2014).
At the Tabakov Theatre, he played Trigorin in Chekhov's "The Seagull" (directed by K. Bogomolov, 2011).
At the Sovremennik Theatre, he plays the lead role in the production "Don't Leave Your Planet" based on A. de Saint-Exupéry's novella "The Little Prince" (directed by V. Kramer, 2016).
In collaboration with Yuri Bashmet and the chamber ensemble "Moscow Soloists", he created a literary-musical program based on Camus' play "Caligula" and string quartets by Schubert and Mahler ("Death and the Maiden"). As a reader, together with soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre and the state symphony orchestra "New Russia", he participates in "Eugene Onegin" – Y. Bashmet's authorial version inspired by Pushkin's novel and Tchaikovsky's opera.
In 2008, he founded his own charitable foundation, which organizes assistance for children with oncological and other severe brain diseases. In 2010, he began implementing the project "Creative Development Studios of the Konstantin Khabensky Charitable Foundation": children's creative studios were opened in Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Perm, Ufa, Nizhny Tagil, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, and Voronezh on the basis of general education schools. This project was followed by the "Feathering" festival and the charitable theatre project "The Generation of Mowgli" (in 2014, the project was awarded the Stanislavsky Prize).
In 2019, he was awarded the State Prize of the Russian Federation for outstanding achievements in the field of charitable activities.
